He’s gotten snaps in his second season, and Jauan Jennings is making the most of them with the San Francisco 49ers in December and January.

The San Francisco 49ers found their way into the playoffs after an up-and-down season, beating the Rams in overtime to set up a matchup with the Cowboys on Sunday. The offense has been especially good this season with mastermind Kyle Shanahan at the helm. Deebo Samuel has been unbelievable, but there have been others who have stepped up when needed. One of those guys is wide receiver Jauan Jennings.

Jennings was a seventh round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, ending up a bit of an afterthought in the class as a whole. Jennings was a solid athlete for the receiver position in college, and had the size and prowess at the catch point and through contact. His skill set wasn’t one to garner heavy interest early, but there was always a chance he could catch fire in the right spot.

He didn’t do much in his rookie season, but he’s found a groove in this offense at the end of year two, getting five-plus targets in four of his last five games. Jennings stepped up big in the Rams game, catching two touchdowns along with six passes for 94 yards.

The Shanahan offense is known for helping receivers get open, and it was definitely evident on that second touchdown by Jennings, one that helped the 49ers tie it up late in the fourth quarter. However, part of it falls on Jennings to execute when called upon, and he’s done just that. His expanded role is earned based on how he’s produced in the second half of the season.

Jauan Jennings has made plays of late, and he’s proving that the receiver room for the San Francisco 49ers has some depth to it. Watch out for him to make a key play or two if the Niners can pull off an upset Sunday.
