BYU Running Back Tyler Allgeier Declares For The 2022 NFL Draft
BYU RB Tyler Allgeier has officially declared for the 2022 NFL Draft.
The running back class for the 2022 NFL Draft just got a little bit deeper. In a group that’s surely to have some studs on day two, like Breece Hall, Isaiah Spiller, Kenneth Walker III, and Kyren Williams, another could be joining them. BYU Cougars RB Tyler Allgeier has thrown his hat in the ring, declaring for the 2022 NFL Draft. He announced it via Twitter.
Allgeier was a walk on for the BYU program back in 2018, after rushing for over 5,000 yards and 56 touchdowns in his high school career. He finally got a shot to carry the load for the Cougars in 2020 after 26 carries in his first two seasons. Allgeier ran for 1,130 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2020, proving those right at BYU who took a chance on him. In 2021, Allgeier raised the bar, rushing for 1,606 yards and tying for tops in the FBS with a whopping 23 touchdowns. He also had one of the plays of the year with his chase down and forced fumble against Arizona State.
Allgeier brings strong traits to the table as a running back, and he’s a favorite of the Bleacher Report scouting staff, ranking as their current RB3 in the class. He’s a strong, well-built back to handle bellcow duties, and he runs well behind his pads and picks up yardage after contact. Allgeier does a great job dipping to reduce surface area between the tackles and at contact as well. There’s a surprising amount of burst and long speed in Allgeier’s game as well, and he’s broken off numerous big runs this season, including an 86-yarder against Boise State and a 62-yard scamper in the bowl game against UAB.
It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the scouting world ranks him, and how his testing numbers shake out, but there’s no reason Tyler Allgeier can’t become one of the best backs from this 2022 NFL Draft class.
