New York Jets 2022 NFL Mock Draft: Secondary Gets Major Boost
By Evan Bachman
Round 2, 35th Overall: Christian Harris, LB, Alabama
Christian Harris is a very hard hitter with good speed as he closes on ball carriers quickly. He also can rush the passer when he’s asked to as he’s recorded 47 pressures over the past two seasons.
Harris is one of the leaders of an Alabama defense that has allowed just over 20 points per game. He has had his struggles in coverage this season, which has hurt his stock a bit, but he’s still a likely a late first or early second round pick.
Round 2, 39th Overall: George Pickens, WR, Georgia
George Pickens was an obvious star right out of the gate, but unfortunately, he tore his ACL this offseason and missed the whole season before returning for the SEC championship a few weeks ago.
Pickens is hard to place in a mock draft because he simply has barely played this season, however with what he’s shown so far I think he can still be an early day two pick. He has what it takes to develop into a very dependable receiver at the next level as he’s a good route runner, has consistent hands, and he’s good in contested catch situations.
Round 3, 68th Overall: Zach Harrison, EDGE, Ohio State
Zach Harrison is a very intriguing prospect. He came into Ohio State as a five-star and you can see why all the traits to develop into an elite edge rusher. He’s got excellent size (6-foot-6, 265 pounds) to go along with elite athleticism, as he reportedly ran a 4.47 40 yard dash in high school, which is simply remarkable for someone of his size.
The issue with him is that he hasn’t shown enough consistency to warrant a first round pick. Last season he made big plays including two strip sacks that resulted in touchdowns, but also failed to consistently pressure the quarterback.
