Comeback and Breakout

Any questions people may have had about Nick Bosa’s ability to come back and perform at a high level after a major injury were put to rest almost immediately. Bosa was back on the field for week one this season and recorded a sack in his first game since the injury.

He picked up two sacks the next week against Philadelphia, and he was off and running. Nick Bosa hasn’t gone consecutive games this year without a sack and is currently on a five-game streak where he’s recorded at least one sack in each game. The 49ers are 4-1 during his current sack streak.

Sacks are a nice simple stat that can underscore the effect pass rushers can have on a game, but they often don’t tell the full story. That’s especially true with the year that Nick Bosa is having in 2021. Bosa is first in the NFL in tackles for loss with 18, he’s seventh in the NFL in quarterback hurries with 15, and he’s third in the NFL in quarterback knockdowns, with 14.

Nick Bosa is second in the NFL only to Myles Garrett in QB pressures with 43. As of right now, Bosa has the sixth best odds for NFL Comeback Player of the Year, but if he keeps up this level of production, he’ll have a legitimate shot at NFL Defensive Player of the Year, where he currently has the seventh best odds.
