What should the Miami Dolphins do with QB Tua Tagovailoa?

Scenario 3: the Miami Dolphins select a quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft.

The Miami Dolphins traded away their 2022 first-round pick to the Eagles, but they still have the San Francisco 49ers’ first-round selection, which currently sits at 13. There is still plenty of time for things to change, but as it stands right now, there is a good chance the Dolphins will pick somewhere in the middle of the first round.

The major concern with drafting a quarterback early in 2022 is that this isn’t considered a quarterback-heavy class. Also, as mentioned before, the Dolphins have far more pressing issues than the quarterback position. Taking a gamble on a tier-two quarterback prospect when your team sits at the bottom in offensive line and receiver rankings isn’t advisable.

This scenario makes the least amount of sense to me. The Dolphins know firsthand that drafting quarterbacks in the early rounds are no slam dunk, considering they drafted Tua Tagovailoa when Justin Herbert was still on the board. Cutting ties with a former top ten pick just two years into his career, only to take a flyer on another young and unproven quarterback, wouldn’t be the most logical approach.

One thing I could see the Miami Dolphins doing is addressing the offensive line with their first-round pick and taking a flyer on a quarterback on day two. This way, there wouldn’t be as much pressure on the quarterback to pan out, and they could use capable backup given Tagovailoa’s recent injury history.
