Trevor Lawrence just made the best throw of his career so far
Trevor Lawrence is only in his fourth NFL game, but he’s made some big-time throws. The dot he just dropped on Thursday Night Football may be the best.
The Jacksonville Jaguars and Cincinnati Bengals don’t make for the most riveting TV as far as the NFL goes, but there is certainly plenty of intrigue in this week’s installment of Thursday Night Football. If nothing else, NFL fans can tune in and watch the league’s last two first overall picks in Jaguars rookie Trevor Lawrence against Bengals second-year player Joe Burrow.
These are two of the best college quarterbacks in recent memory, and Lawrence in particular has been impressive in the early goings of the game.
The Jaguars took a 14-0 lead into the half, though it could have been larger were it not for a big stand by the Bengals just before the half.
Trevor Lawrence made the play of the half and maybe the best throw of his young career thus far.
Trevor Lawrence drops an absolute dime to Laviska Shenault
Let’s just appreciate and enjoy this throw for a moment.
Lawrence is rolling out to his right, and just before he’s out of bounds, he flips the ball 50 yards downfield with the flick of his wrist.
It wasn’t lackadaisical, but it certainly looked like this incredibly difficult throw required almost no effort from Trevor Lawrence.
He was the top pick in the draft for a reason.
Kudos to Laviska Shenault for making a great adjustment on the ball and making the effort by Trevor Lawrence worth it.
Unfortunately, Lawrence lost one of his top targets with DJ Chark going down with a broken ankle in this game. We will likely have to wait until next year to see that duo together again.
Without Chark, the Jaguars might be asking more of Lawrence not just with his arm but also with his legs.
He’s doing more running in this game against the Bengals than we’ve seen this season, and he put Sam Hubbard on skates for a touchdown in this game.
Trevor Lawrence has been putting his full arsenal of skills on display early in this game, and he’s playing much more efficiently than we’ve seen in the first three games. Lawrence has been figuring things out and making some bad decisions along the way early in his career, but he’s had more “wow” moments so far this season than any of the other first-round quarterbacks.
We’ll see if Joe Burrow can answer in the second half.
