Best 2022 NFL Draft Prospect: Andrew Booth Jr., Cornerback

The Clemson Tigers have dominated college football because of the outstanding offensive players they have recruited and developed over the last few years. However, in the first year of the post-Trevor Lawrence era, the Clemson prospect that could get the most attention this season could be on the defensive side of the ball.

Andrew Booth Jr. may not have a long track record of success at this point of his college football career, but he has shown flashes of the making of a great player.

Clemson cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. will be entering his junior year this season. During his freshman season, Booth Jr. only played 65 snaps across 13 games. He finished the year with six tackles and a pass breakup.

During his sophomore year Booth Jr. started four of the eleven games he played in. He had 30 tackles, four pass breakups, two interceptions, a sack, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Booth Jr. was named Second Team All-ACC from the AP and PFF. Off the field Booth Jr. was also named to the All-ACC Academic Team.

Much like Clemson wide receiver Justyn Ross, who is coming off of a season-ending neck injury, there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding Booth Jr. as a prospect. Ross’ uncertainty has to do more with his health. while Booth Jr.’s comes from the lack of experience. However, both have shown during their time on the field that they have first-round potential.

Booth Jr. is a front runner for the CB2 rank among 2022 Draft prospects behind LSU’s Derek Stingley Jr.

Teams like the New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings, and Cincinnati Bengals should pay attention to how Booth Jr. plays in a larger role this season. He must prove that he is the playmaker that he has shown in flashes earlier in his collegiate career.

Justyn Ross, Wide Receiver
