Best 2022 NFL Draft Prospect: Spencer Rattler, Quarterback

Oklahoma has been a quarterback factory in recent years. Since 2018 they have had two first overall pick quarterbacks in Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray. They also had Jalen Hurts for one season after he transferred from Alabama and turned him into a top-60 selection.

So it isn’t shocking that their top prospect to watch is a quarterback. Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler has emerged as the face of College Football now that Trevor Lawerence is in the NFL.

Spencer Rattler is about to enter his redshirt sophomore season. During his first season at Oklahoma, Rattler only saw action in three games and completed 7 of his 11 pass attempts for 81 yards and a touchdown.

Rattler had an outstanding 2020 season starting all 11 of Oklahoma’s games. He threw for 3,031 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and only seven interceptions. Rattler also rushed for 160 yards and six touchdowns on 81 attempts. That performance earned him a spot on AP‘s First Team All-Big 12 and made him a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien award. Rattler finished the year with the third-highest PFF grade among quarterbacks in the FBS with a 92.5.

He is regarded as the QB1 of the potential 2022 NFL Draft class. Many believe Rattler could go as high as first overall and likely will not fall out of the top-3. Teams like the Houston Texans, Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, and Detroit Lions will be keeping a close eye on how Rattler does this season to see if he confirms everyone’s belief that he is worthy of the first overall pick.
