Philadelphia Eagles 3-Round 2022 Mock Draft: New QB joins the fold
Round 3, 70th Overall: Brian Asamoah II, LB, Oklahoma
The Philadelphia Eagles have greatly neglected the linebacker position for several seasons, and there are times where it’s come back to bite them (looking at you Nate Gerry). It’s not only Gerry though, as the group really doesn’t have a top guy to make a major impact. The Eagles are betting on the athleticism with Davion Taylor long-term, and currently have Alex Singleton and Eric Wilson starting off the ball.
The unit needs some juice, and they get some here with the addition of Brian Asamoah. He is just 6’1″ and 230 pounds, but the bet on athleticism is worth it.
Asamoah has the speed, change of direction skills, and flexibility make him a great player to have working to the sidelines and in coverage. He has the closing speed to blitz, and plays well downhill when he stays patient rather than being aggressive. He’s flexible enough to get around blockers in the run game as well.
Asamoah just needs to build more consistency this season at Oklahoma. Whether it’s more refinement with his hands or better processing downhill, Asamoah can rectify those issues with a season of strong development. He has the tools and could rise in the 2022 NFL Draft with that development. He’d be a nice addition for the Philadelphia Eagles on day two.
