New York Jets training camp is underway, and there is plenty of excitement in the air. New quarterback Zach Wilson finally arrived this week, and he’s hit the ground running. Carl Lawson, who the Jets signed in free agency, has looked nearly impossible to block thus far. However, they aren’t the big winner so far.

Elijah Moore has been the star of Jets training camp to this point.

Moore was a second round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and while he’s been mostly running with the second team so far, he’s been virtually unguardable to this point and has separated from Keelan Cole in terms of the depth chart. Moore and Wilson have also been building some chemistry to this point in camp as well, connecting on some deep throws including the one below.

Moore has been winning deep down the field with his speed and has shown off his quickness, deception skills, and flexibility as a route runner to create separation. Head coach Robert Saleh has commented on Moore’s ability saying that he has “the ability to play outside, inside, gadget, whatever you want to do”. Fellow wide receiver Corey Davis says “he’s a baller on and off the field”.

Anyone who dove in to the draft knew about Moore’s skill set. His play speed is undeniable, and the way he maintains it through his route stems, through break transitions, and at the catch point is unreal. He can win at all three levels of the field and tracks the ball extremely well.

The New York Jets have some serious depth at the receiver position, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see Moore rise in the ranks quickly throughout Jets training camp and in the preseason. Moore has the talent to become a starter in the league very quickly, and his versatility only adds to what the Jets can do on offense. Moore will be fun to watch as Jets training camp continues throughout the month of August.
