The Jacksonville Jaguars made one of the wildest moves of the 2021 offseason signing Tim Tebow as a tight end. How’s that working out so far?

For more than a decade, Tim Tebow has been one of the most polarizing athletes in the country. The Jacksonville Jaguars signed the former Heisman-winning, first-round pick of the Denver Broncos, ESPN analyst, and minor league baseball player in the New York Mets organization this offseason in one of the most shocking moves made by any team.

Not only did the Jacksonville Jaguars and head coach Urban Meyer decide to sign Tim Tebow, they signed the former quarterback as a tight end, something he simply wouldn’t do just before he was ultimately out of the league as of 2015 (when he was with the Eagles).

Many teams gave Tim Tebow a shot after his unbelievable run in 2011 with the Denver Broncos, but unfortunately, none of those opportunities materialized into a long-term role. Who knows how different things would be if Tebow had made the decision to transition to tight end sooner than the age of 33?

The Jaguars certainly don’t have to worry about Tebow, who will be 34 in mid-August, reporting to training camp out of shape. They also won’t have to worry about him failing for lack of effort as Tebow never does anything without pouring his whole self into it.

There is also a video floating around the Twitter-sphere of Tim Tebow catching a touchdown pass from Trevor Lawrence. You just can’t make this stuff up.

Believe it or not, Tim Tebow is also rated a fairly respectable 66 overall on Madden 22, a testament to his athletic prowess and overall traits.

All told, it seems like Tebow is off to a decent start at Jacksonville Jaguars training camp. There are no full-padded practices allowed league-wide per the new Collective Bargaining Agreement until day six of camp, so we’ll get to see how Tebow fares against more “live” bullets in the near future.

With that being said, he certainly looks the part, and the catch he made from Lawrence in the back of the end zone is certainly a bit of a surprise and undoubtedly impressive.

The Jaguars are also hardly the only NFL team that is trying out an “experimental” type of player at tight end. The NFL has done this with basketball players for the longest time, but more and more players at other positions are trying to transition to tight end because you no longer have to be a traditional in-line type of player to make it at that position.

Players like Kelvin Benjamin, Jordan Matthews, Tyree Jackson, and most successfully Logan Thomas are changing from their original or drafted positions to try and make it at tight end.

We’ll see if Tim Tebow can be the latest.
