Indianapolis Colts: 3 players to watch during training camp
2. Rock Ya-Sin
Another player from the Indianapolis Colts’ 2019 draft class, Rock Ya-Sin has often been a tale of two corners when he’s on the field. Ya-Sin has been a little bit more available than Campbell, playing in 21 games his first two seasons. The issue with Ya-Sin is the inconsistencies.
When he’s in zone coverage, Ya-Sin feels right at home. His ability to diagnose and react when he’s given space to read the quarterback and close is very good. He’s improving his instincts in coverage as well.
However, when Ya-Sin is in man coverage, there are questions. He’s inconsistent with his hands at the line of scrimmage, and when he misses with timing, bigger receivers will take advantage and gain leverage quickly on him. He also gets too grabby throughout routes and deep in coverage, and needs to work on tracking the football and finishing.
This summer will be a big one for Ya-Sin. Xavier Rhodes will likely get one of the outside corner spots, and Kenny Moore will slide into the slot when necessary. The Indianapolis Colts didn’t draft a corner, so they clearly believe in the group they have. It’s about taking the next step now, and Ya-Sin needs to be up to the challenge.
