4. 49ers pry Sony Michel from Patriots

The San Francisco 49ers drafted a pretty intriguing couple of running backs in 2021.

Trey Sermon, a third-round pick out of Ohio State, as well as Elijah Mitchel, a sixth-round pick out of Louisiana, could be the team’s duo of the future if they both reach their full potential.

For the time being, Raheem Mostert is the returning leading rusher for the 49ers. He had 521 yards in eight games last season and had eight touchdowns the year prior.

The New England Patriots seem to use at least one draft pick in the top three rounds on the running back position annually at this point, and there is a chance those guys will get lost in the shuffle at times.

Sony Michel has not lived up to first-round billing but did average 5.7 yards per carry in 2020 in just nine games played.

With Damien Harris, James White, and rookie Rhamondre Stevenson on the roster, Michel might be traded to the highest bidder, and why not the 49ers?

The 49ers lack a true RB1 type of player and even if Michel is running in tandem with Mostert and Trey Sermon, he would be primed for a bigger role out West with the 49ers than he currently is with the New England Patriots.

Michel could really bounce back with the 49ers, who should be expected to be running the ball plenty especially if Trey Lance winds up starting.
