Washington Football Team: 3 players who could surprise in 2021
3. JD McKissic, RB
Although JD McKissic has certainly been known throughout his time in the NFL as a tremendous receiver out of the backfield, it was really not until he got to the Washington Football Team in 2020 that those talents were “maximized” so to speak.
In 35 games from 2016-19, McKissic was targeted in the passing game a total of 91 times. He was targeted a total of 110 times in his first season with the Washington Football Team in 2020 and caught 80 passes for 589 yards and two touchdowns.
McKissic finished with 954 yards from scrimmage last season, and although many eyes are on second-year back Antonio Gibson, McKissic could finally surpass 1,000 all-purpose yards and take more of the backfield timeshare than many anticipate.
Obviously, McKissic is a weapon. Washington is going to find a way to get him out on the field. Although Gibson is a heck of a talent and is rightfully expected and anticipated to be the lead back and perhaps featured player in the offense overall, McKissic should not be discounted.
Although McKissic is not a household name like Kamara is, he’s got a chance to keep progressing and really surprise a lot of people with the potential to go off for 1,500 yards from scrimmage.
