2022 NFL Draft Prospect: Spencer Rattler, Oklahoma
After appearing on Netflix’s QB1 show, Spencer Rattler has been no stranger to the spotlight. He was one of the top recruits out of high school and that has carried into college as he now holds the keys to being the top quarterback prospect in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Rattler will enter the 2021 season as Oklahoma’s starting quarterback after starting 11 games for the Sooners in 2020. That will make Rattler the first quarterback to start multiple seasons at Oklahoma since Baker Mayfield was the program’s QB1 from 2015 through 2017. With Lincoln Riley taking over in 2017, Rattler will be the first quarterback at Oklahoma to be the starting quarterback in multiple seasons under Riley.
Being more than familiar with the system and players around him, Rattler should be able to build on what was a strong 2020 showing. Just a season ago he threw 28 touchdowns with only seven interceptions while totaling 3,031 passing yards on 317 attempts.
Rattler has also exhibited an ability to make plays with his legs. In 2020 he had 81 carries for 160 rushing yards and six touchdowns, giving him a total of 34 touchdowns on the season.
Given his familiarity with the system and rare experience in it as well, at least rare at Oklahoma, Rattler is expected to have a breakout season. All he has to do to secure being the top quarterback in the class is live up to those lofty expectations.
