Washington Football Team

The Washington Football Team might be the most interesting quarterback room heading into the 2021 season. The unit is expected to be led by veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, but there’s also the intrigue of Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen who have previously played well for Ron Rivera.

While all three could man the fort for the season, none of them seem like long-term options for the franchise at quarterback. Fitzpatrick will turn 39-years old during the season and has voiced that he’s contemplated retirement in the past, meaning his time with the team might not go beyond this season.

As for Allen, he’s battled injuries in his career and has yet to play in more than 13 games in a given season since joining the league in 2018. Part of that is due to his role, but he would have to put together a really strong season to gain the trust to be the long-term solution.

The most likely of the group to be the long-term answer might be Heinicke. He looked good in the playoff game last year, but he has only one career start in the regular season. That was back in 2018 and he’s gained solid experience outside the NFL, but it still seems like it would be an uphill battle for him in Washington.

With all that being said, the Washington Football Team might be the team most in need of a quarterback come the 2022 NFL Draft. Given the state of their division, getting into position could be hard. They had that problem this season, picking in the second half of the first round. However, given the state of their quarterback room, a trade up would be well worth it to solidify the team’s franchise quarterback moving forward.
