The Seattle Seahawks stole a number of players from their division rivals in the 2021 offseason. We’ve already talked about tight end Gerald Everett and the upside he presents with Russell Wilson throwing him passes, but defensively, the Seahawks stole some guys from their rivals as well.

Specifically, they took from the bargain heap of the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive unit with cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon and defensive lineman Kerry Hyder.

Hyder might be one of the most underrated pickups league-wide, not just for the Seattle Seahawks.

I absolutely love this signing from top to bottom.

The Seattle Seahawks got Hyder for two years, $6.8 million, a bargain for any starting-caliber defensive lineman but especially with the type of production we’ve seen from this player.

Hyder racked up 49 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 18 QB hits, and 8.5. sacks last season for the 49ers in addition to 32 quarterback pressures. It would be one thing if Hyder was just a one-year wonder but he had similar production in his last fully healthy season back in 2016 (Detroit) as well.

Medical history could be a primary reason why Hyder was not a more sought after free agent, but the Seahawks not only stole him from their division rivals, they managed to get him over Robert Saleh and the New York Jets as well.

With his pass rush productivity last season and the price he ended up going for, Kerry Hyder was one of the most underrated free agent pickups in the league and could pay huge dividends for the Seattle Seahawks in 2021.
