Seattle Seahawks: 3 really underrated moves in 2021 offseason
1. Gerald Everett, TE
This year’s free agent market at the tight end position was rather robust, even with the New England Patriots taking two of the top options in Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry.
The Seahawks got something of a bargain in former Los Angeles Rams second-round pick Gerald Everett for one year, $6 million.
Everett was the TE2 for the Los Angeles Rams where he worked with new Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, who was the Rams’ tight end coach in 2017 when Everett was drafted 44th overall.
He has 127 receptions in four NFL seasons for 1,389 yards and eight touchdowns, and Waldron’s presence will certainly be an advantage for Everett as he adjusts to his new surroundings.
Jacob Hollister led Seahawks tight ends last season with 25 receptions, Will Dissly and Greg Olsen right behind him with 24 apiece. There’s no question that there is room for someone like Everett to come in and seize the TE1 role for the Seahawks this season and he should be able to prove worthy of it.
Everett has outstanding athleticism for the tight end position and even if he’s not the primary blocker out there, it will be fascinating to see what playing with Russell Wilson does for his career trajectory.
He’s still not yet 27 years old, so there’s untapped potential with Everett and the Seahawks could get the best out of him.
