The 2021 NFL Draft concluded a little over a month and there were a lot of great picks.  With every draft pick, a sense of hope comes with every pick that they can change your franchise. However, not every pick always turns into what you may have hoped for. Some teams will look back and love their picks and some will look back and regret their picks.

Three teams specifically will look back and regret their selections in the 2021 NFL Draft.

1.  The New York Jets select Zach Wilson 2nd overall

The Jets had a difficult decision to make with the second overall pick. The Jets decided Zach Wilson was the answer to the future of their franchise. Sadly, the right pick was Justin Fields.

While Wilson had an incredible 2021 season and showed off his arm talent, concerns were there surrounding Wilson.

"“Wilson can be labeled a “one-year wonder,” as his first two seasons at BYU weren’t all that impressive. In fact, he wasn’t even guaranteed the starting job heading into 2020. While I wouldn’t call him brittle by any stretch, Wilson also dealt with shoulder and hand injuries in college. Wilson also played behind an elite offensive line. Per PFF, he finished with a 96.5 grade in a clean pocket and under no pressure and a 74.1 grade when under pressure. The talented field general also didn’t face what you would call “elite” competition during his breakout season. Wilson went a mere 2-4 in his career against top-25 competition.” Michael Fabiano, Sports Illustrated"

For a franchise who has not had a true franchise QB since Joe Namath, the Jets are taking a big risk with Wilson. Justin Fields was a more proven commodity and might even have a higher ceiling. Fields went 4-1 against ranked teams this past season, posted 5,373 passing yards, 867 rushing yards, 82 total touchdowns, and only 9 interceptions according to SportsReference.com in his two seasons at Ohio State, and has shown to be a better athlete.

According to Relative Athletic Score, Justin Fields showed elite running ability posting a 4.4 40 yard dash. The NFL has shown its transition towards mobile QBs, making Justin Fields a better fit for today’s game.
