Green Bay Packers 2021 NFL Draft grades: Needs addressed very well
Rejoice, Green Bay Packers fans! After several seasons of adding wide receiver talent on day three of the NFL Draft, things changed in 2021, as Gutekunst and company decided to move up for a wide receiver late on day two. The Packers moved up seven spots to secure Clemson wideout Amari Rodgers, and while it may not be round one capital, this pick is great for the offense.
Rodgers is a very talented player in the slot, using his thick frame to make tough catches over the middle of the field. He plays bigger than his size and can make plays at the catch point. After the catch, Rodgers has great spatial awareness and vision to create yardage after the ball is in his hands, and can consistently make the first defender miss by using his awareness and manipulating defenders.
Rodgers’ running back build will give him more opportunities in a LaFleur offense that uses a lot of pre-snap motion and quick passing concepts. He will be utilized in roles that have been given to guys like Randall Cobb and Ty Montgomery in the past.
Rodgers’ reliability might be a trait that Aaron Rodgers will like the most (should he play). His adjustment to the football and reliable hands make him a security blanket of sorts, and building chemistry shouldn’t take too long.
Grade: B+
