NFL mock draft 2021: Justin Fields, Trey Lance help make history
By Evan Bachman
After frustrating Aaron Rodgers last year with their first-round pick by picking his future replacement, they have to at least consider adding a receiver from this talented class.
Obviously, the Packers have Davante Adams, but they lack dependable pass catchers behind him. Kadarius Toney could step in and be a solid second option working from the slot.
His ability to force miss tackles after the catch is probably the best of anybody in the draft class. There are some plays at Florida where he makes SEC defenders look like high school football players.
He also has very good hands, in fact over his four-year career at Florida he’s caught a total of 120 passes and has only three drops.
Jayson Oweh is one of the most interesting prospects in the class. He has a very rare combination of elite size (6-foot-5, 252 pounds) and speed (4.36 40 at Pro Day), but he also didn’t record a single sack last season.
He is obviously a very raw prospect and can’t be expected to be very productive right out of the gate in his career, but he’s too talented to not go in the first round.
This may seem like a strange fit because Buffalo is in win-now mode, but with Josh Allen surrounded by a lot of young talent I don’t think the window for contending is closing in the immediate future for them, so I think they can afford to invest in more of a project type prospect like Oweh.
