NFL mock draft 2021: 49ers snag Mac Jones; Broncos trade up for QB
The Denver Broncos have done a nice job of building a strong roster with impact talent on both sides of the ball. With a little bit of luck and growth from a few key players, this team could quickly become legitimate contenders in the AFC. Honestly, the biggest question about this team is at the quarterback position. Is Drew Lock the right guy to lead this team into the future?
In this NFL mock draft, the Denver Broncos address their need at the quarterback position with an aggressive move up the board. Denver moves up from No. 9 to No. 4, sending the Atlanta Falcons their 2021 second-round pick and their 2021 first. A large price to pay but it is never cheap to acquire a true franchise quarterback.
2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 4th overall
With San Francisco taking Jones at No. 3, the Broncos really cannot go wrong with their quarterback selection here. Either Trey Lance or Justin Fields would be a great pick for this team and could quickly grow into a star franchise quarterback. With Fields’ value seemingly limited throughout the league, Lance gets the edge for Denver at No. 4.
Lance is arguably the most naturally gifted quarterback prospect in this draft class. He has a truly special arm and is an elite runner at the quarterback position. Lance is a smart and polished passer who understands how to read through his progressions and while his accuracy can be a bit inconsistent, he does flash brilliant accuracy to all levels of the field.
In Lance, the Broncos find themselves a big-time playmaker at the quarterback position who undoubtedly has a ton of long-term upside. He can stay in the pocket and play within the structure of the offense but also undoubtedly has exciting skills as an improviser. Making this kind of investment in Trey Lance could be the move that takes the Denver Broncos over the top.
