2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 23rd overall

Player Stats. 23. Penn State. Jayson Oweh. player. 30. Pick Analysis. EDGE

After finding their franchise quarterback early in this 2021 NFL mock draft, the New York Jets turn their attention to the defensive side of the ball here at pick No. 23. The Jets are going to have to create more pressure with their front four under the direction of new head coach Robert Saleh. While the addition of Carl Lawson will help, they still have more work to do. Jayson Oweh stands out as a strong pick for the Jets here.

Oweh is an absolute freak athlete on the edge who undoubtedly has exciting upside at the next level. He displays an explosive first step and impressive flexibility as an edge rusher. He bends around the edge with ease and displays fantastic closing speed. While Oweh is an exciting athlete with massive upside, his production in college was uninspiring.

The Jets need to find some impact talent up front and while Oweh is certainly a project player, he has the talent to grow into a premier playmaker for the Jets on the edge.

2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 24th overall

24. Player Bio. OT. Michigan. Jalen Mayfield. player. 55. Pick Analysis

Offensive tackle stands out as a premier need for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the likely direction that they will go in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The depth of this offensive tackle class could give the Steelers an opportunity to find an immediate starter at the position, even all the way down at No. 24.

Jalen Mayfield is the pick for Pittsburgh here. He is a good athlete at the offensive tackle position and also shows strong hands at all times. While Mayfield played on the right side in college, he has the athleticism needed to move to left tackle at the next level if needed. Mayfield is a gifted offensive tackle prospect who could provide immediate and long-term value to the Steelers up front.
