NFL Free Agency 2021: Ranking the top 5 signings so far
4. Cleveland Browns sign S John Johnson (3 year deal)
The Cleveland Browns struck out on top-flight pass rushers in free agency (although they did get Takk McKinley on a prove-it deal), but that didn’t stop them from bringing in one of the biggest steals so far in free agency.
Safety John Johnson has been very good for the Los Angeles Rams over the last four seasons and yet somehow, he was one of the more underrated free agents in this year’s crop of players.
At the age of 25, Johnson is going to be able to cash in at the end of this three-year deal again so his agent did a good job there, and the Browns got him at a really good price.
- 3 years
- $33.75 million
- $24 million guaranteed
Some of the top safeties in the NFL right now are getting upwards of $14-15 million per season, so the Browns got a young player with 350 career tackles, 32 career pass breakups, and eight career interceptions at way under market value.
Cleveland gets a stud for the secondary at a team-friendly price.
