NFL mock draft 2021: Panthers, Patriots, Bears get aggressive for QBs
2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 8th overall
The Miami Dolphins would love to add some speed to their wide receiver room this offseason and it is difficult to find a player much faster than Jaylen Waddle. Trading down from No. 3 makes so much sense for Miami as they can still put themselves in a position to land a premier player like Waddle, just at a much better value.
Waddle is arguably the most exciting offensive playmaker in the 2021 NFL Draft class. He has legitimate game-breaking speed that makes him a dangerous weapon in the deep passing game and as a playmaker after the catch. Waddle is incredibly explosive in the open field, accelerating up to full speed in an instant and separating away from the defense before they even know what happened.
While his explosive speed is obviously exciting, there is much more to Waddle’s game. He is a better route runner than most elite speed guys, changing directions quickly and understanding how to find soft spots against zone coverage. He also displays good hands and competes well for the ball in contested-catch situations. His dynamic playmaking ability is obvious, but Waddle is also a well-rounded receiver who can be the focal point of an offensive attack.
The Dolphins need to invest in the offensive side of the ball this offseason and do what they can to help Tua Tagovailoa become a high-level NFL quarterback. Giving Tua a dynamic weapon like Waddle would undoubtedly make life easier on the young quarterback.
