2021 NFL Draft grade: First round

Michigan’s Kwity Paye is a player who has made significant strides each year of his college career. He did not see much action in his first two seasons for the Wolverines, only starting four games. He finally became a full-time starter in 2019 and was able to account for 12.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. His senior season though is where he really turned it on as he was able to account for 22 pressures and two sacks in just four games.

What makes him such an intriguing prospect is his outstanding athleticism. He was named Bruce Feldman’s number one athletic freak in college football before the season. He also was was a member of the state champion 4×100 meter relay team and won the state championship in the long jump in high school. This athletism translates to the field as he shows a nice burst and overall flexibility. One other working in his favor is the type of person he is. He is an extremely hard worker who has already overcome his share of adversity.

While Paye has some natural talent he still needs to work on developing his game. One area he could improve on is his stance which is an awkward four-point stance. If he improves this, there is a good chance he would not take such short choppy strides when coming out of his stance. Another area he can work on is his pass-rushing repertoire. He shows very little in terms of pass-rushing moves and also needs to do a better job of using his hands overall.

If Paye goes to a team with a good defensive line coach who can develop him, he should be able to become a solid NFL starter. Most likely he will hear his name called at the end of round one of the 2021 NFL Draft.
