2021 NFL mock draft: 49ers and Patriots trade up for quarterbacks
By John Blair
2021 NFL mock draft Round 1, 19th overall
With the top quarterbacks off the board by the time Washington picks, the team has to address one of its other needs. The two positions it will likely consider with this pick are linebacker and offensive tackle. In this mock draft though the team decides to grab an offensive tackle as Brandon Scherff is a free agent who the team might only be able to sign to a one-year deal. Even if Scherff is signed to a long-term deal Washington still would like to upgrade the offensive line.
While Tevan Jenkins might be one of the more overrated prospects in the draft, Washington might like him enough to pull the trigger on him in the first round. The team might be willing to spend such a high pick on Jenkins due to his overall strength and the fact he can play multiple positions of the offensive line.
2021 NFL mock draft Round 1, 20th overall
We see the third straight offensive tackle taken off the board when the Chicago Bears take Texas offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi with the 20th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Neither of the Bears’ current starters Charles Leno Jr. and Bobby Massie are a lock to return and both had their struggles last season.
Texas offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi is a long offensive tackle (6-foot-7) with great feet. These tools should allow Cosmi to play left tackle for the Bears if they decide to move on from Leno. He also has the versatility to play right tackle as he has played that position as well during his college career. One other positive with Cosmi is the team should be very familiar with him as they hired his old college coach Tom Herman as an offensive analyst.
