2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 2nd overall

Personally, I believe that the New York Jets should take a quarterback at No. 2, completely cut bait with Sam Darnold and move forward with their new quarterback and head coach. However, I do understand the appeal of trading down here if the price is right. Expect the Carolina Panthers to get aggressive this offseason and if they send this kind of offer to the Jets, New York will have to think hard about it.

After sending four picks to the Jets to move up to No. 2 in this NFL mock draft, the Panthers select Zach Wilson to be their new franchise quarterback. Wilson is a dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands who escapes pressure well and does a fantastic job of keeping his eyes up the field and looking for the big play.

Wilson has good arm strength and shows fantastic accuracy to all levels of the field. He also throws the ball with great anticipation and does a nice job of making throws on the run. Wilson also does a great job of adjusting his arm angle when needed.

The Panthers have done a fantastic job of stocking young talent on both sides of the ball in recent years. Obviously, there is still work to do, but they can afford to trade away some extra draft capital if they feel like there is a quarterback who is worth this kind of investment.

In this NFL mock draft scenario, the Panthers make an aggressive move up the board for Wilson and will begin to build their offensive attack around him. Wilson may benefit from some time on the bench to develop, so landing in Carolina where Teddy Bridgewater can start at the beginning of the year if needed would be ideal.
