2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 22nd overall

Joseph Ossai. player. 35. Pick Analysis. EDGE. Texas. 22. Scouting Report

With Jadeveon Clowney hitting free agency this offseason, edge rusher stands out as an obvious need for the Tennessee Titans. They simply must find a quality running-mate to place opposite of Harold Landry and Joseph Ossai stands out as a strong fit.

Ossai is a gifted athlete who shows an explosive first step and tremendous upfield burst. He also displays powerful hands and is a hard-working player whose motor is always running hot. Ossai is going to make his money at the next level as a pass rusher, but do not sleep on his ability to set the edge and defend against the run. Ossai also has experience as an off-ball linebacker and is comfortable dropping back into coverage.

Simply put, Ossai is an extremely gifted edge rusher who could quickly grow into an impact player at the next level. His physical style of play also makes him a strong fit for the Titans’ defensive attack.

2021 NFL mock draft: Round 1, 23rd overall

Pick Analysis. 30. Scouting Report. EDGE. Miami (FL). Jaelan Phillips. 23. player

The Jets trading down and still landing Trey Lance earlier in this 2021 NFL mock draft feels like a major win. With their second first-round selection, the Jets address a major defensive need by adding Miami edge rusher Jaelan Phillips to the mix.

Phillips is an extremely tough and athletic edge rusher whose combination of size, power and quickness on the edge gives him high upside at the next level. Phillips can create consistent pressure as an outside rusher and also brings plenty of value as a run defender. The Jets need to address their edge rusher position this offseason and Phillips has the talent to grow into a long-term impact player for the team.
