2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 19th overall
The Washington football team is led by one of the best defenses in football, as they only gave up an average of 21 points a game. Unfortunately, they are also held by one of the less potent offenses in the NFL. As the team only averaged 21 points a game which ranked 25th in the NFL. The one area the team must address this offseason to improve the scoring production of their offense is quarterback.
While Alex Smith was a feel-good story this year coming back from a gruesome leg injury, he is not the long-term answer at quarterback. The team could also lose Smith this offseason as he will be a free agent. The other quarterback on the team who has shown some promise is Taylor Heinicke, but he is best off being a backup at this point in his career. This means Washington will need to bring in a player this offseason and their best bet is bringing one in via the 2021 NFL Draft.
The player who would make sense at the 19th pick in the draft is Alabama’s Mac Jones. While Jones may never develop into an All-Pro quarterback he shows the skills to be a solid starter in the NFL. One of these skills is his outstanding accuracy. Jones completed 77% of his passes this fall for the Tide, and also displayed great accuracy during Senior Bowl week.
To go along with his impressive accuracy, Jones is an extremely smart player who shows adequate arm strength. Even though he will not be able to beat you with his feet, he is the type of player who can beat you through the air if you surround him with a strong supporting cast.
