Chicago Bears 2021 offseason needs: It starts with quarterback
Chicago Bears top 2021 offseason needs: 3. Wide receiver
Allen Robinson’s value to the Chicago Bears cannot be overstated at this point.
Robinson was targeted 151 times in the 2020 season and caught 102 passes for 1,250 yards and six touchdowns.
The Bears’ second-leading receiver in 2020 was rookie Darnell Mooney, taken from the vaunted 2020 NFL Draft class which is one of the best in recent memory at the position. Mooney appears to be a keeper, and the Bears have to find a way to retain Robinson if at all possible, though he’s likely to command around $20 million per year on the open market.
Can the Bears afford that? Do they need to franchise tag him? Would he play on the tag?
Even if Robinson is back, the Bears have to add more playmakers at the wide receiver position.
Anthony Miller has shown flashes in his three seasons as a pro, but he hasn’t been consistent enough for the Bears to say they shouldn’t upgrade there. Adding another piece or two at receiver in the 2021 offseason is essential, and they undoubtedly have a chance to do that with another great class of players at the position.
The 2021 NFL Draft class is loaded at receiver, so with whatever picks the Bears have, they should consider taking two.
Whoever is playing quarterback for this Chicago Bears team needs more talent at wide receiver and this offseason will provide them ample opportunity to add it.
