2021 NFL Draft: 49ers make aggressive move for QB in 3-round mock draft
2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 28th overall
The Baltimore Ravens have built an impressive offensive attack around a strong running game and deep passing attack. They have done a great job of playing to the strengths of Lamar Jackson and it has mostly worked well for the team. That being said, the Ravens have lacked the ability to consistently move the ball in the short-to-intermediate range. This can hurt them on key third and medium plays.
The Ravens need to find weapons in the passing game who can separate early and/or dominate in contested-catch situations and Penn State tight end Pat Freiermuth can do a bit of both.
Baltimore loves to use their tight ends in the passing game, with Mark Andrews becoming one of the primary weapons in their offense. With Andrews on the roster, adding Freiermuth to the mix may seem like overkill but he would certainly help round out their offensive attack.
Freiermuth is a big and athletic target who is a consistent matchup nightmare in the middle of the field. He is far too big for most defensive backs to handle and has the speed and quickness to make life difficult on opposing linebackers. Freiermuth is a strong route runner who quickly separates from man coverage in the middle of the field. He also shows great ball skills and a wide catch radius that helps him be a consistent weapon through traffic.
Freiermuth is a solid and dependable target in the passing game who would do a great job of simply keeping the chains moving for the Baltimore Ravens. On top of that, he is an impact blocker at the tight end position who would undoubtedly help the Ravens in the run game as well.
Double tight end sets featuring Andrews and Freiermuth would be incredibly difficult for opposing defenses to handle. This kind of lineup would allow the Ravens to keep the defense guessing, as both players can make a massive impact in both the run game and passing attack.
