2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 2nd overall

Ohio State. 2. player. Scouting Report. QB. Justin Fields. 30. Pick Analysis

Personally, I see this pick nearly as easy as Lawrence going No. 1 to the Jags. While Justin Fields is not as great as Lawrence, he is an incredible quarterback prospect in his own right and the clear QB2 in the 2021 NFL Draft class.

Similar to Lawrence, Fields has the exciting physical skill-set needed to give him massive upside at the next level. He has the arm needed to hit any throw on the field and typically does so with impressive accuracy. Fields throws a beautiful deep ball and can rip the ball into tight spaces with fantastic velocity when needed.

On top of that, Fields shows the ability to adjust his arm angle and make plays off-schedule. He is an impressive athlete at the quarterback position who improvises well and shows a great combination of quickness and power with the ball in his hands. Make no mistake about it, Fields is a dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands who can hurt the defense with his arm and his legs.

The New York Jets may want to get greedy here and look in another direction. I understand the attraction of trading this pick for a haul and moving forward with Sam Darnold under the direction of a new head coach. That being said, Adam Gase was not the only problem with the Jets in recent years. Darnold simply has not been good in the NFL and the Jets cannot pass on this opportunity to snag a true franchise quarterback.

A conversation should be had about going in a different direction here but in the end, Fields stands tall as the clear choice for the New York Jets with the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
