Jacksonville Jaguars: Five ideal coaching fits to pair with Trevor Lawrence
By Kyle Edmond
Urban Meyer
Every year there are rumors of Urban Meyer making the jump to the NFL, but this year seems to have extra momentum behind them. The rumors surrounding Meyer and the Jaguars seem to be real, but it would take a hefty price to pull Meyer out of retirement, again.
The number being attached to the rumors is $12 million a year. This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise given Meyer’s background and success. He walked away from one of the best programs in the country at Ohio State for health reasons. If he’s going to come back to coaching, not only does the opportunity have to be right, but so does the compensation.
So why would Meyer go to the Jacksonville Jaguars and a rookie quarterback in Trevor Lawrence? The simple answer is why not? The tools are in place for success and Meyer hasn’t tried the NFL yet. He won a championship at two different schools in college and there’s little left to accomplish there. If the coaching bug is biting him again, then the NFL and Jacksonville Jaguars seem like the best path.
One thing that could hold this deal back is the aspect of Meyer not having roster control. Coming from the college ranks, Meyer quite literally built nearly every roster he coached. Not having that level of say could be the deal-breaker.
