Round 2, 33rd Overall

S. TCU. 2. player. 872. Trevon Moehrig. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

After bolstering their offense with the selections of Lawrence and Pitts, the Jacksonville Jaguars finally turn their attention to their abysmal defense with the 33rd overall pick in this 2021 NFL mock draft.

Trevon Moehrig is largely considered the top safety prospect in this class and for good reason. He is a big, rangy player that has all of the intangibles you could want in the position. In his career with TCU, Moehrig has come down with 7 interceptions and has 21 pass deflections, showing that he has the potential to be a ball-hawk style player at the next level.

Right now, the Jags safety group consists of Jarrod Wilson, Josh Jones, Andrew Wingard and Daniel Thomas. They certainly aren’t inciting any fear into opponents so adding a guy like Moehrig to the mix could change that.

Round 3, 65th Overall

Scouting Report. Iowa. 3. Pick Analysis. DT. Daviyon Nixon. player. 878

Back in 2018, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Taven Bryan three picks before Lamar Jackson. Three years later and Bryan was benched halfway through the season for an undrafted free agent rookie.

His struggles make it hard to imagine him sticking around with the team next season so finding some competition at three-technique should be expected.

Iowa’s Daviyon Nixon is a guy that has been getting a lot of hype of late, with some even projecting him to be a first-rounder. While I don’t believe he will actually go that high, I do think he is firmly in play on Day 2.

The former JUCO transfer has found a lot of success as an interior pass rusher for the Hawkeyes, tallying 8.5 sacks and 19 tackles for loss in his two years in the Big-10. His skill set and motor would give the Jacksonville Jaguars and immediate rotational piece to pair with Davon Hamilton and Doug Costin.
