Round 1, 11th Overall (Trade with Cowboys)

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. TE. Kyle Pitts. 840. Florida. 1. player

The Dallas Cowboys only have six picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, so they could be a realistic trade partner for anybody looking to move up in the first round. The Jacksonville Jaguars just so happen to have a bevy of picks at their disposal and could look to make a deal if the price is right.

In this scenario, I have the Jacksonville Jaguars trading their 21st and 44th overall picks in 2021, as well as a 2022 fourth-rounder, to the Cowboys in exchange for their slot at 11.

So with the 11th pick of this 2021 NFL mock draft, I have Jacksonville landing Florida Gators tight end, Kyle Pitts.

The Jags haven’t had legitimate production from a tight end since the lone pro bowl season of Marcedes Lewis back in 2010. In the decade since, they have invested a lot into the position and have gotten little to no return from it.

They gave Julius Thomas a huge five-year contract back in 2015 and he played a total of 21 games with the team before being traded to the Dolphins for Branden Albert, who promptly retired before ever playing a game with Jacksonville. They then drafted Josh Oliver early in the third round of the 2019 draft and he has suited up for just four games in his career due to injury.

All of this to stress just how desperate the team is for a player like Pitts, who is arguably the best tight end prospect since Vernon Davis. Over the last two seasons, Pitts has brought in 97 passes for over 1,400 yards and 17 touchdowns all while dominating anybody who lines up in front of him. He perfectly fits the mold of the slot tight end that has become such a weapon in today’s NFL.

This may be a steep price to pay, but Pitts is worth it. Adding a guy with his skillset to an offense that now has Trevor Lawrence, D.J. Chark, Laviska Shenault and James Robinson, gives the Jacksonville Jaguars an exciting young collection with a similar blueprint to the Kansas City Chiefs.
