Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Wide Receiver. Jaylen Waddle. 1. player. Alabama. 829

As stated on the previous slide, the Detroit Lions could have a bare cupboard at the wide receiver position. We mentioned Golladay and Jones, but Danny Amendola might not be back in 2021 as well. If both Jones and Golladay walk in free agency, then the Lions are in dire need of a big-time threat at the position. Even if the Lions bring back one, they must add talent at the position, and the 2021 NFL Draft is full of potential WR1s.

Enter Jaylen Waddle, yet another stud receiver to come out of what’s becoming a strong pipeline at Alabama. While it’s unfortunate that we couldn’t see Waddle keep developing in 2020, it’s likely he will still be a coveted player and go in the first round.

The first thing that stands out with Waddle is his natural explosion. He can create after the catch with rare burst and great long speed. Waddle can turn any play into a touchdown from anywhere on the field. He isn’t just a speed guy either. Waddle possesses very good ball skills and an affinity for high pointing the football in contested spots.

He’s still developing his route tree and needs to work on getting cleaner releases against press, but the upside is tremendous. He can become an instant playmaker as a WR2 for the Lions and be their top weapon soon after.
