New York Jets: Five ideal head coach fits for Trevor Lawrence
By Kyle Edmond
Bill O’Brien
Before you just click to the next slide, hear me out. Bill O’Brien was an awful General Manager for the Houston Texans, but he wasn’t that bad as a head coach. Up until this season he had posted a winning record in five of his six seasons in Houston while totaling a 52-48 record.
If O’Brien is willing to just be the head coach, then he should almost be at the top of the Jets’ list of potential head coach candidates. He’s not only seasoned in the NFL with a winning record, but he’s also worked with a different Clemson quarterback that could help with Trevor Lawrence.
Deshaun Watson made strides under O’Brien in Houston. Now, it can be questioned how much of that success belongs to O’Brien, but that’s a question to be answered during the search process.
Having spent a large chunk of his NFL experience with the New England Patriots, O’Brien is more than familiar with the AFC East. What could stand in the way would be another offer.
There’s only 32 head coaching jobs in the NFL, but another team could also be going after O’Brien. The other side of the coin is college football. O’Brien was hired by Houston after spending two seasons with Penn State. Should a college team come calling, maybe that’s the job that O’Brien would accept?
