Brian Daboll

A few years ago Brian Daboll and head coach wouldn’t have been spoken in the same sentence after failed attempts at being an offensive coordinator in Cleveland and Miami. However, working under Bill Belichick and Nick Saban can quickly change that.

Daboll’s career received a jolt of energy and now the success of the Buffalo Bills’ offense has sprung him into conversations about the next wave of head coaches. What has helped his case is the rise of the Bills’ offense, including the success of Josh Allen.

Allen had raw skills when he entered the league, but harnessing his abilities has turned him into one of the better quarterbacks in the league and Daboll is being attributed for that success. Head Coach Sean McDermott has a defensive background, so the offense has belonged to Daboll.

The success of Allen and the Bills’ offense as a whole should create interest between Daboll and the New York Jets to be their next head coach. Trevor Lawrence isn’t as raw as Allen was, but the skill set is similar. If Daboll has been able to do what he has with Allen, it’s intriguing to imagine what he could do with Lawrence. Plus, the Jets seem to like to hire from within the division.
