Dallas Cowboys: Three-round 2021 NFL mock draft recap
Recapping the three-round haul for the Dallas Cowboys in the recent 2021 NFL mock draft at NFL Mocks.
On Monday morning, a brand new 2021 NFL mock draft dropped on NFL Mocks and this time we went three rounds deep with our predictions. This kind of mock draft allows us to look a bit deeper into the class and see how draft classes for specific teams can take shape. With this mock draft fresh on the mind, I wanted to take a quick look at some specific draft classes. Here, we are going to dig deep into the three-round mock draft haul of the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cowboys held the fifth overall pick in this mock draft and unsurprisingly, defense was the priority for the team. With three picks in this mock draft scenario, the Cowboys were able to make significant additions at some of their biggest positions of need. Their three-round 2021 NFL mock draft haul came together as followed:
Round 1, 5th Overall: Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech
Round 2, 37th Overall: Andre Cisco, S, Syracuse
Round 3, 69th Overall: Jayson Oweh, EDGE, Penn State
Cornerback stands out as a massive need for this team and they took care of it immediately in this mock draft. Caleb Farley is new to the cornerback position, but he has all of the skills needed to be an absolute star at the next level.
Farley is a long and athletic cornerback prospect who shines in man coverage. He is quick and smooth in his backpedal and changes directions quickly. Farley does a great job of using his length to his advantage, suffocating opposing receivers with his size and also shows fantastic natural ball skills. Simply put, Farley is a shutdown cornerback in the making who has massive upside at the next level.
More defensive help for the Dallas Cowboys
After taking Farley in the first round, the Cowboys go back to the secondary in the second round and bring in Syracuse safety Andre Cisco. Cisco is the best coverage safety in the 2021 NFL Draft class, showing an impressive combination of range on the back-end and ball skills. He is an impact player as a deep safety whose skill-set fits the modern NFL extremely well.
Cisco is currently working his way back from a torn ACL and that is obviously less than ideal. That being said, his long-term value at the next level makes him worthy of an early-round selection. Adding Cisco to the Cowboys’ secondary would undoubtedly be a step in the right direction.
With their final pick of this mock draft, the Dallas Cowboys went back to the defensive side of the ball and brought in Penn State edge rusher Jayson Oweh. Oweh has not been the most productive edge rusher in college, but one does not have to watch much of him to see his raw upside at the next level.
Oweh is extremely quick off of the ball and explosive as an upfield rusher. He bends around the edge with ease and can close on the quarterback in an instant. Oweh needs to get a bit stronger in order to reach his ceiling at the next level, but he is undoubtedly an exciting player who could grow into an impact player for a team like the Dallas Cowboys.
The entire defense is a major area of need for the Dallas Cowboys and loading up on that side of the ball makes the most sense for the team. In this mock draft, they are able to significantly improve their stock of defensive back talent and also swing for the fences with an exciting edge rusher.
