2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 7th Overall

player. EDGE. Kwity Paye. Michigan. 7. 44. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

The Atlanta Falcons are another team who could certainly consider a quarterback in this spot, but let’s be honest, Matt Ryan is not the problem here. Plus, he still has a ton of dead money on his contract, making it difficult to see the Falcons moving on from him anytime soon. Maybe they snag a quarterback who can sit back and learn under Ryan for a couple of years, but I find it more likely that they take a high-level prospect who can help them compete immediately.

The Falcons have struggled to find impact edge rushers in recent years and they try to correct that problem with the selection of Kwity Paye at No. 7 in this mock draft. Paye has flown up draft boards this season, showing an impressive combination of size, speed and power that makes him a force to be reckoned with.

Paye is not your typical slight edge rusher who primarily wins with speed around the edge. He is a stout defensive end prospect who can win at the point of attack and hold the edge. He is a powerful player who consistently wins against the run and is a monster in bull rush situations.

While Paye is certainly a power-based player, do not sleep on his athletic ability. He is quick off of the ball and shows impressive upfield burst. He is also fluid around the edge and closes on the quarterback in an instant when he finds a path. Simply put, Paye is an impact edge defender who has a safe floor and high ceiling at the next level. He is undoubtedly worthy of a selection in this range of the 2021 NFL Draft.
