2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 26th Overall

Notre Dame. Liam Eichenberg. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. OT. 52. 26

This pick comes to the Jacksonville Jaguars via the Los Angeles Rams

Due to the Jalen Ramsey trade with the Los Angeles Rams, the Jacksonville Jaguars hold two first-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft. They found their franchise quarterback with the selection of Justin Fields earlier and they spend their extra pick to help protect him here.

Liam Eichenberg is playing his third season as the starting left tackle at Notre Dame and continues to play the position at an extremely high level. Eichenberg is a big and strong tackle prospect who has a long and athletic frame, and uses his length well in pass protection. Eichenberg does a great job of staying patient in pass pro, sitting back and snapping his hands out at just the right moment. He is also a smart player who does not get fooled by stunts or blitzes.

Eichenberg is not the greatest athlete up front, but he does show enough mobility to get out and make blocks at the second-level when he is asked. He is extremely powerful at the point of attack and does a great job of staying balanced and on his feet through most blocks.

Simply put, Eichenberg is a rock-solid offensive lineman who would bring stability to the Jags’ offensive line situation. If this scenario plays out, Jacksonville could either let Cam Robinson walk in free agency or bring him back and kick him inside. Robinson has improved this season, but he is still an inconsistent left tackle who may be better suited at guard. The Jags should be looking for more stability out of their left tackle spot and Eichenberg feels like a great fit.
