Bengals add much needed secondary help
As it currently stands, the Cincinnati Bengals are in a division where each team has multiple weapons in the passing game. Cleveland has Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. Pittsburgh has JuJu Smith-Schuster, Chase Claypool and many others. Baltimore has Mark Andrews and Marquise Brown. Having to play those teams for a total of six games a year, the Bengals need a strong defense, specifically in the secondary.
Patrick Surtain II has logged at least one interception in each of his three seasons at Alabama, taking this year’s back for a touchdown. He also has been able to total 17 pass breakups over his 33 games for the Tide.
Surtain’s stat sheet doesn’t knock your socks off in any one category but instead is balanced across the sheet. He is a solid player that will bring stability to whichever teams brings him in. For Cincinnati, a team in the midst of a rebuild, that fits the bill well.
Not to mention that at 6-foot-2, he could also matchup with tight ends, which could become a big part of his game in the AFC North. The Steelers, Ravens and Browns all use tight ends, so that aspect could be a big plus in his evaluation from the Bengals.
