Justin Herbert continues to tear up NFL defenses and got his first NFL win.

The Cincinnati Bengals have unleashed Joe Burrow, who has thrown for 300 yards or more in six consecutive games. The Los Angeles Chargers have also unleashed sixth overall pick Justin Herbert, who is coming off of arguably his best performance in the early portion of the 2020 season and his first victory of the year.

Herbert has thrown for at least three touchdowns in three consecutive games, and continues to absolutely shred NFL defenses. On Sunday, it was the Jacksonville Jaguars who fell victim to Herbert’s big-time arm, as the rookie threw for a career-high 347 yards with three passing touchdowns, adding another 66 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Essentially, the Chargers are getting from Herbert what it has taken three years for the Buffalo Bills to get out of Josh Allen.

Herbert has been sensational in the first five games of his rookie campaign, completing over 67 percent of his passes with 12 touchdowns and just three picks, also adding a pair of rushing touchdowns and 10 first downs with his legs.

Herbert is making plays, but it just now finally translated to a win for the Chargers, who also won their season-opener this season (Tyrod Taylor as QB).

Herbert’s downfield accuracy has been tremendous and is presently the top reason he is a leading candidate for offensive rookie of the year.

Not many NFL quarterbacks, regardless of experience, can hang with the downfield throwing abilities of Russell Wilson, but Herbert has been on pace with him on deep touchdowns even having played one less game.

It will be fascinating to see how long Herbert can keep this kind of pace. You can’t go broke taking a profit, but it’s not like Herbert is dinking and dunking down the field and the rest of the team is carrying him.

He’s really making a statement this season and making a lot of pre-draft evaluations look foolish with the way he’s played. The arm talent has always been there. The mobility has always been there. Most figured it would take at least a year for Herbert to really put it all together if it was going to happen, but he’s been a playmaker for the Chargers all year.
