Donovan Peoples-Jones makes the most of big opportunity
Donovan Peoples-Jones stepped up big when Odell Beckham Jr. got hurt.
The stellar rookie wide receiver class of 2020 continues to provide.
The Cleveland Browns made a very good pick late in the 2020 NFL Draft on Michigan wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones, a big receiver with slot abilities and tremendous athleticism who was projected by some to go on day two of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Peoples-Jones had one target heading into the Browns’ Sunday showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals, but an injury to star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. paved the way for Peoples-Jones to make some plays.
Peoples-Jones’ productivity down the stretch for the Browns against the Bengals could pave the way for more targets in the near future.
The play he made to win the game is one of the most impressive plays by any rookie in the 2020 class so far this season.
This is an adjustment on the ball that Odell Beckham will be proud of from the young receiver and former five-star prospect.
Peoples-Jones has always had the physical ability and has shown flashes of big-play potential, but the offense he played in at Michigan didn’t exactly highlight his traits. He caught just 34 passes in his final season with the Wolverines.
The online scouting community really highlighted Peoples-Jones’ best reps with the Wolverines, and some had him in their top 10 receivers in the class.
The NFL world decided that the sample size on Peoples-Jones wasn’t large enough to invest significant draft capital into him, but the Browns turned out to be a great situation for him.
The NFL is all about taking advantage of your opportunities when they come. Peoples-Jones certainly did that against the Bengals and will now be someone to watch to get a big increase in targets from QB Baker Mayfield in the final nine games of the season.
