NFL Trade Deadline 2020: Top trade targets from each division
By Ian Higgins
One of the biggest victims of the surplus of running backs in the NFL, Royce Freeman has been shuffled down to the third spot in the Denver backfield. This places him behind both Bronco-staple Phillip Lindsay and newcomer Melvin Gordon. Even though he has been the third back on the depth chart, Freeman has found playing time to prove his worth due to injuries.
Freeman has been a consistent rushing presence for this Denver offense the past two seasons, averaging 131 carries for 509 yards as the backup to Lindsay. Freeman is a serviceable back who can fit into any conventional run-offense from day one and keep an offense on schedule.
Freeman is not a show-stopper, and will not be demanding a hefty price tag, so he will be an attractive option for teams who need a reliable piece of depth behind their lead back. Derrick Henry has been one of the most impressive physical specimens in sports over the last year but needs relief throughout the regular season to keep him fresh for the postseason.
