2021 NFL Draft: Jaylen Waddle is WR1 in 2021 NFL mock draft
2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 2nd Overall
Taking Lawrence at No. 1 would be a pretty easy choice for the New York Jets, but it gets a bit more difficult for the New York Giants here at No. 2. Daniel Jones showed some promise for the Giants as a rookie quarterback last season but struggled mightily with turnovers throughout the year. Jones has continued to turn the ball over far too often this season and I could see this franchise having a quick hook with the young quarterback in the right situation.
It would be less than ideal for the Giants to move on from a guy who they took at No. 6 overall just two years ago, but if they continue to pretend that Jones is the right guy, it is just going to hurt their ability to have long-term success. Instead, the Giants take the opportunity to improve at the most important position on the field by adding Justin Fields to the mix.
We have yet to see Fields on the field this season, but we saw more than enough out of him last season to know that he is a high-level 2021 NFL Draft prospect. Fields is an extremely gifted prospect who has a big arm and impressive natural athleticism.
Fields is a strong runner who shows a great combination of speed and power with the ball in his hands. He is incredibly difficult to bring down in space and always stands tall and strong in the pocket.
While Fields is impressive as a runner, do not sleep on his ability to make plays with his arm. Fields has the arm strength to hit any throw on the field and shows impressive ball placement ability to all levels of the defense. Simply put, Fields is an extremely talented quarterback prospect who would give the Giants an immediate upgrade at the quarterback position.
The longer the Giants wait to replace Jones, the worse off this organization is going to be. Instead of delaying the inevitable, the Giants pull the plug now and replace Jones with a much superior player.
