2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 14th Overall

Scouting Report. WR. DeVonta Smith. Pick Analysis. Alabama. 14. player. 54

It has been an ugly start to the season for the Philadelphia Eagles and their inability to move the ball through the air has been a major reason for their struggles. Carson Wentz continues to struggle and the Eagles’ lack of weapons on the outside has obviously hurt him. This team has suffered a lot of injuries at the wide receiver position, but that cannot be blamed for everything. They need to become more dynamic on the outside.

DeVonta Smith is a high-level wide receiver prospect who has a bright future at the next level. He is a smooth and athletic pass-catcher who shows the ability to separate against any defensive back. Smith is already an incredible route-runner and he does a great job of catching the ball away from his body. He is a fantastic deep threat on the outside and also shows plenty of upside as a run-after-catch weapon.

Some will question Smith as a 2021 NFL Draft prospect because of his slight frame. While overly skinny receivers like Smith have struggled to make an impact at the next level, he is a fantastic playmaker who undoubtedly has a chance to be an exception.

Smith is a great wide receiver prospect who would arguably become Wentz’s top weapon immediately. Taking a wide receiver in the first round of back-to-back drafts may seem unlikely, but the Eagles undoubtedly need help at the position and Smith is a potential star in the making. Snagging him in this range would certainly make some sense.
