2021 NFL Draft: Round 1, 10th Overall

CB. Caleb Farley. 13. 10. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Virginia Tech

The race between Patrick Surtain II and Caleb Farley for the top cornerback in the 2021 NFL Draft class is close. Both players are high-level athletes who undoubtedly have shutdown cornerback upside at the next level. Surtain went off of the board a few picks ago, but Farley shines through as a great fit for the Los Angeles Chargers here at No. 10.

Farley has an incredible combination of size, length, speed and athleticism that will undoubtedly play at the next level. He is a big and long cornerback who can fight with receivers at the line of scrimmage, but he also moves extremely well for his size. Farley is quick enough to maintain his responsibility throughout the route and fast enough to keep up in the deep passing game.

While Farley does show fantastic natural instincts at the cornerback position, he is extremely raw at this point in his career. He is a former quarterback who began his career at Virginia Tech as a wide receiver. Once Farley becomes more comfortable at cornerback and learns the intricacies of the position, the sky is the limit.

It was certainly tempting to give Justin Herbert an exciting offensive weapon or improve the Chargers’ offensive line here, but Farley is simply too talented to ignore. Snagging him at No. 10 feels like a great value for Los Angeles.
