The Miami Dolphins have made some serious improvements along the edge, signing both Emmanuel Ogbah and Shaq Lawson in the offseason and drafting Jason Strowbridge. Add them to the Vince Biegel/Andrew Van Ginkel, and head coach Brian Flores has a cupboard of good edge rushers. However, finding someone with speed to threaten the outside track would be good for the defense.

Enter Patrick Jones, an edge rusher with a knack for using speed and bend to win around the edge. His get-off and ability to dip and finish at the quarterback might be the best in the 2021 NFL Draft class, and the Dolphins get a steal here.

The front seven is mostly filled out in Miami, but finding a true MIKE linebacker to run the show is what Flores needs. In the middle of round two, the Dolphins select linebacker Nick Bolton. Bolton is a true MIKE who gets everyone in place and has a great football IQ.

He reads the quarterback’s eyes well in coverage and shows off good instincts to close and finish in the run game. His ability to dip under contact is very impressive and is quick to his assignments in man or zone coverage.

Length may be an issue for Bolton, but his traits are very impressive.
